Divorce Mediation is flexible and confidential. It
gives you and your spouse a way to settle the conflicts and issues
between you in a way that helps you to work together as parents
after your divorce.
It is my goal to help you recognize your needs and
interests and to help you negotiate your conflicts in a way that
makes sense for you. Mediation provides an open and free environment
to exchange information so that you and your spouse can negotiate
with each other in confidence.
As a mediator I remain neutral. I do not take sides
nor do I give legal advice. (You may use consulting attorneys to
review the final agreement or for legal advice during the mediation.)
I do help you hear what the other is saying and help you realize
your common goals and work through your competing interests.
Divorce mediation gives you the opportunity
to reach creative solutions in a supportive environment. You can
reach your goals while respecting your differences.
"Does mediation really work?" Yes. We know from years
of research that when you compare couples who have mediated their
divorce with couples who go through an adversarial or litigated
divorce, mediating couples are more likely to be satisfied with
the process and the results and are less likely to go back to court
for post-divorce issues. Mediation allows the two of you to get
through your divorce with less conflict than you would experience
in an adversarial divorce.
The benefits of Mediation are:
- It keeps you and your spouse in control of your own divorce
- It generally takes less time and costs less
- It reduces conflict and allows you to move on with your life
- It provides a positive parenting experience for your children
