LOUISE R. ZITO
Louise has twenty years of experience in New York and Connecticut in family law, including dissolution, custody, support, prenuptial and cohabitation, personal injury litigation, insurance arbitration, labor and employment, estate and probate.
A native of Connecticut, she graduated from Hamden High School and Southern Connecticut State University. She attended New York Law School and was admitted to the New York bar in 1985, and the Connecticut bar and U.S. District Court in 1986. In her current practice she represents individuals in all family law matters and related issues such as estate, probate and family business mediation.
As a family law practitioner she can:
- Advocate for you, advise you and offer you support;
- Provide you with information to help you choose the type of divorce that best suits your needs and enables you to reach solutions for you and your family
- Represent you as a collaborative attorney in dissolutions, custody, and post-dissolution matters
- Act as mediator for you and your spouse, partner or co-parent to help you reach resolution of your issues
- Litigate on your behalf in child custody cases, dissolutions, and post dissolution modifications of alimony and child support
- Draft pre-nuptial agreements, separation agreements, co-habitation and partnership agreements, and support documents for civil unions
Louise is a member of the CT Council for Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Practice, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is a founding member of Divorce Solutions of Connecticut, and a member of Collaborative Divorce Team of Connecticut. She has special training in Mediation and Interdisciplinary Collaborative Divorce.
As an employment and labor practitioner she has:
- Litigated discrimination and retaliation cases before the Commission on Human Rights Opportunities (CHRO), as well as wage, hour and workplace safety cases before the Department of Labor
- Brought employment discrimination cases based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, sexual harassment, and claims for wrongful discharge
- Negotiated collective bargaining agreements and participated in labor negotiations and arbitrations, including grievance arbitrations
- Drafted severance packages, non-compete agreements and personnel handbooks
Louise is also a member of the Connecticut Employment Lawyers' Association.
She is active in community and professional organizations, serves as Chairperson of the Coordinating Council for Children in Crisis, and is also the legislative liaison for the Professional Responsibility Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association. She is a past president of the Branford Business Network Inc., and a recipient of the Branford Women's Network, "Woman of the Year" award. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the New Haven Bar Association, and the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund.
Louise taught as an Adjunct Professor for the Quinnipiac University School of Business, teaching ethics and diversity from 2001-2004, and has lectured extensively to local community organizations and business groups. She has also been interviewed by Faith Middleton and Ray Hardman, of Connecticut Public Radio.
