JON D. BILLER
Jon is our managing partner. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut and graduated from Hamden High School. He received a dual degree in economics and political science from Clark University and his Juris Doctor from Pace Law School in 1986. He was admitted to the Connecticut and New York bars in 1986 and the United States District Court for Connecticut in 1989.
Jon has represented victims of serious personal injury, including death, and of catastrophic property damage for over 20 years. He has represented individuals, tenants, landlords, homeowners, investors, domestic businesses and international corporations throughout the country and internationally.
Jon has successfully litigated numerous jury and courtside trials in both state and federal courts. He has also presented and argued a number of appeals to the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts. With his leadership, Jon's firm has established legal precedent in numerous cases on behalf of victims and consumers in his two decades in the legal profession. These include:
- legal precedent establishing the rights of property damage victims in appraisal proceedings including successfully vacating appraisal awards where injustice, impropriety or significant mistake has been made,
- legal precedent establishing rights of insureds in examination under oath proceedings,
- legal precedent establishing the rights of insureds to collect withheld depreciation under property insurance policies,
- legal precedent establishing discovery rights for victims of unfair insurance practices.
Jon has recovered millions of dollars for policyholders including cases involving insurance payments for unfair insurance practices, bad faith, emotional distress and legal fees. Jon's has a wide range of professional experience and community service. He has been licensed by the State of Connecticut as a Public Insurance Adjuster since 1978. He served as the Town of Trumbull's Insurance Commissioner from 1989 to 1993 and Assistant Town Attorney for East Haven from 1992 to 1995. He served four terms as an elected member of North Haven's Zoning Board of Appeals. Jon is a member of the Connecticut and American Bar Associations, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and the New Haven Bar Association.
Jon has lectured to the Connecticut Bar Association and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association on a number of insurance related subjects. He has authored several articles involving agency law, property coverage and insurance coverage litigation. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Insurance Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. His practices areas include Commercial Litigation, Insurance Litigation, General Litigation and Negligence.
