WHAT IS DIVORCE?
Divorce or dissolution is the legal mechanism for dissolving the "contract of marriage" between you and your spouse. It does not dissolve your relationship between you and your children.
In order to obtain a divorce one spouse has to bring a lawsuit for dissolution of marriage or legal separation. Connecticut law recognizes "no-fault" divorce which means you can divorce your spouse without allegations and proof of fault such as adultery and cruelty. You can simply state "the marriage has broken down irretrievably."
